The
150 plus year old anchor which was located in the southeast corner of the
Harborside Hotel Parking lot for many years became the newest addition to the
Niagara Shipwreck Exhibit. Although not the original anchor of the Niagara, it
dates to the time period of the 1850’s. Moving and resetting the old anchor was
no easy task. Special equipment, a custom made mount and the expertise of the
Ozaukee County Highway Department crew accomplished the job. The exhibit,
located at the end of Main Street along the North Slip of the harbor
memorializes the tragic loss of the passenger steamer Niagara in 1856. See
Shipwreck Niagara Exhibit for more information. (Click Photo
