This is Barbara's first time with Port Summer Theatre.
"The last plays and musicals I appeared in were
back ah-hum a few years ago in high school," she recalls, "so this is my big
come back to the stage after a long absence." For years I have frequented
antique, consignment and resale shops and studied costume history while pursuing
my BA degree. More recently I have volunteered to do play publicity, makeup, and
costume support for the North Shore Academy of Arts, and have been involved in
church choirs on and off most of my life. I cut my teeth vocally with
guitar-playing, singing nuns who insisted upon 4-part harmony for just about
everything!
Daytime:
"I feel quite comfortable performing in
Chicago given that I have been hiding in the past for years!" Barbara lives in a
1900 turn-of-the-century house on the national registry; and impersonates a 1917
one-room school teacher as her part-time job. I conduct daylong field trips
focusing on Wisconsin history for elementary students who spend the day
attending Ye Olde School (the old Oak Knoll School in West Bend)and touring an
1865 farmhouse -- performing in costume & character throughout the day. "It's
part performing arts, part history teaching, and always a joy for me," Barbara
shared.
Anything Else:
My BA degree in
Communications and MS degree in Business Management have taken me on some
interesting journeys from hospital & university communications management, to
being an alderman, to managing a traveling national league soccer team. I have
also been involved in a wide variety of community service activities while
raising 3 sons with husband Mark. |
